Muscle And Nerve Tests Used By Pain Management Doctors

Our pain management doctor uses advanced muscle and nerve tests or studies to identify the cause of your pain. Each patient is unique, so we will create a successful treatment plan just for you. We listed a few of the muscle and nerve tests and studies below with a short description explaining each one.

Treatments include:

  • Electrodiagnostic Studies (EDX) – Electrodiagnostic studies help our physiatrists analyze, diagnose and treat the injuries and diseases that affect the nerves and muscles. Measuring the speed and the electrical movement in your nerves and muscles help our doctors make accurate diagnosis. These studies give our doctors an understanding of what is happening to your body so we can help relieve your pain. Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction study (NCS) are two tests that are commonly used in electrodiagnostic studies.
  • Electromyography (EMG) – EMG is a procedure evaluating muscle and nerve cells. The EMG converts these signals to graphs.
  • Electromyography (EMG) – EMG is a procedure evaluating muscle and nerve cells. The EMG converts these signals to graphs.
  • Nerve conduction study (NCS) – NCS is a procedure that measures electrical impulse in a nerve. We use NCS to diagnose nerve damage.
  • Evaluation and Treatment of Musculoskeletal Disorders– We evaluate musculoskeletal disorders first and then we create a treatment for the patient.
Chronic Pain Treatments

Our physiatrist uses advanced chronic pain treatments for neck pain, joint pain, spine pain and nerve injury pain. Below, is listed a few of our chronic pain treatments.

  • Fluoroscopically guided Spinal and Epidural Injections

    – We use a fluoroscopy (live movie x-ray) to guide the injections to the targeted area. The injections will stop the nerves from transmitting pain signals.

  • Radiofrequency Nerve Ablation for Facet & Sacroiliac Joint Pain – A fluoroscopy (live movie x-ray) is used to guide the radiofrequency needle to the targeted nerve. We create a heat lesion to interrupt the pain signals to the brain eliminating the pain.
  • Prolotherapy & Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections – Both of these are injections designed to create a healing process. Prolotherapy is a special dextrose solution and PRP uses your own plasma from your blood. The plasma promotes a healing process.
  • Ultrasound-Guided Joint Injections – We use ultrasound machines to guide the joint injections.
  • Trigger Point Injections (TPI) – We inject a local anesthetic injection to the trigger points of the muscles to relieve pain. Trigger points are knots in the muscle. When muscles are tense they will cause pain. TPI will alleviate muscle pain in lower back, neck, arms and legs. .
  • Botox Injections for Spasticity, Torticollis, and Headaches – Botox injections treat a variety of disorders.
  • Neuromodulation For Sports and Spine Related Pain – Neuromodulation involves electrical stimulation to interrupt pain signals.
